Description

Here's the result of 4 hours with a OSC camera on the Angel Nebula in Monoceres, relatively low in the sky even at DSNM.  This region has a bit of everything in it - star nurseries, reflection nebulae, dust clouds, glowing hydrogen and sulphur gases, open clusters, new and old stars, etc., etc.  The most recognizable object is NGC 2170, the star nursery far right.  To its left are reflection nebulae VdB 68 and 69.  Far left is NGC 2182.  Collectively, this region has been dubbed the "Angel Nebula."  I am particularly intrigued by the tendrils of dark absorbing material and by the streamers in the van den Berg objects.  These features are relatively close - only 2400 light years distant.
